Sunday Oct 11, 2020
Welcome to Part One of a two-part series leading up to National Art Day on October 25, 2020. This week and next week, Jaiko will be speaking with two artists who have combined their passion for art with their passion for sustainability. In today’s episode, we are joined by Abigail West, an artist and activist located in Athens, Georgia. Her artwork utilizes reused and reclaimed material giving new life to otherwise forgotten items. As a result, her work can lead to a conversation about difficult topics such as sustainability. Whether it is a chip bag, a grain bag, or an old street sign, Abigail finds a way to make something beautiful of it. Throughout the episode, Abigail and Jaiko discuss how she combines her passion for art with her passion for sustainability, the role that reuse plays in our society, and how Abigail hopes that her artwork can spark a conversation and leave people feeling hopeful.
