Teach a Man to Fish, Feed Him for a Lifetime | Carmen Garner

Meet Carmen Garner, founder of the nonprofit, Inner City Anglers. ICA aims to teach young people to fish and become one with nature while also providing mentorship and character development opportunities for the youth. Carmen has worked as a teacher and mentor for over twenty years, but when the pandemic hit, his ability to bring kids to indoor events such as basketball games was brought to a halt. Rather than let the pandemic stop him, he used his stimulus check to found Inner City Anglers where he could combine his passion for mentorship with fishing. By introducing the kids to fishing and the outdoors, they are learning a new sport while also gaining life skills such as perseverance, self-confidence, and social-emotional awareness.
